OSL-AMS-ATL-MSY on @KLM and @Delta

KLM B737-800, my ride from Oslo to Schipohl

The fare classes for my homeward journey after two weeks in Stockholm and Oslo were such that I was able to upgrade the European legs of the trip. This is a rare treat for me, because Delta Air Lines usually offers such great discount fares for my flights that moving up in fare class to the point that I can use my "systemwide medallion upgrades." This trip, however, was put on so late that I couldn't get the deep-discount, so front-seat, here I go!

The first leg was OSL-AMS, on a KLM B737 (above). KLM doesn't install classic "first class" seats on their 737s. What they do is to use the six-across coach-style seats, but they sell only window and aisle. They also served us a nice Quiche Lorraine with a Chardonnay.

The AMS-ATL leg was also on KLM, one of their B777s. I've finally found a set of circumstances where a middle seat is cool. KLM's "World Business Class" section on their B777s is set up 2-3-2. A middle in business class is great for me. I don't usually get up while in-flight. The passengers next to me were both on aisles, so I wasn't in their way. The flight attendants came down both aisle, so both were constantly re-filling my wine glass while taking care of their side. Heaven!

The meal was good, a cold salmon starter, grilled chicken with mashed potatoes, and a tasty cheese plate. I had Champagne with the starter, a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc with the main, and two ports, one red tawny and another a "rose" port. All of which served to put me nicely to sleep for the post-service duration of the flight. I didn't even wake up for the "snack" that's served an hour or so before landing.

When I awoke as we were on approach, I found we'd been given a small gift--a shot of BOLS liqueur in a small porcelain bottle made to look like an Amsterdam 3-story house. Fun!
